When we talk about community, we often think of individuals coming together, connecting, and making a difference. But community also extends to businesses and organizations that step up and embody the spirit of generosity and care. Today, we want to share a heartwarming story of such a partnership that has lasted for over a decade.
In 2012, one of our dedicated volunteers, Diane Bacchus, spotted a truck while on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway (BQE). This wasn’t just any truck; it bore the name “Santiego Moving” with the poignant tagline, “The Movers Who Care.” Diane, driven by intuition and hope, thought, “If they care, maybe they’d be willing to help our cause.”
With Hurricane Sandy wreaking havoc, many communities were devastated, roads were a mess, and the weather was relentless. Despite the grim situation, our mission was clear: deliver baskets of hope to families in The Rockaways and Staten Island. But how? The answer came in the form of Santiego Moving.
Diane approached them with our cause, and without hesitation, Santiego Moving said, “Yes.” Their willingness not only made the mission to The Rockaways a success but also etched a memory in our hearts, witnessing the impact of our combined efforts during such challenging times.
But their support didn’t stop there…
Year after year, Santiego Moving has stood by the NYC Basket Brigade. They’ve consistently provided a truck for our Westchester initiatives, enabling us to reach soup kitchens and communities in the Bronx and beyond. Now, a decade later, their unwavering commitment stands as a testament to the power of partnerships.
